Following the 2005 General Election, Tessa Jowell returned as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. Tessa’s previous Ministerial appointments were Minister of State for Employment, Welfare to Work and Equal Opportunities at the Department for Education and Employment (1999-2001) and Minister of State for Public Health at the Department of Health (1997-1999).


Dianne Thompson Chief Executive of Camelot Group plc, operator of the UK National Lottery
Dianne joined Camelot in 1997 as Commercial Operations Director and took over as Chief Executive in December 2000 when Camelot was awarded the second licence to operate the lottery. As Chief Executive Dianne has developed and driven Camelot’s strategy for growth, which has succeeded in delivering the longest period of growth in the history of The National Lottery, with year-on-year sales up in 2003/4, 2004/5 and 2005/6 (to date). Camelot also runs the world’s most successful interactive lottery via the internet, interactive TV and Play by Text – with more than 1.3 million registered players. Dianne is leading the company in the competition for the third lottery licence, a process which includes a root and branch evaluation of the business and game portfolio In the 2006 New Year’s honours list Dianne received a CBE for services to business.


Sir Clive Booth Chair of The Big Lottery Fund
Sir Clive Booth took a science degree with first class honours from the University of Cambridge and a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. He was a senior civil servant in the Department for Education and Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State from 1975-77. He became successively Deputy Director of Plymouth Polytechnic, Director of Oxford Polytechnic and Vice-Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University (1986-97). From 1992-95 he was Vice Chairman of the UK Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals. He is currently Chair of Centrex and the Big Lottery Fund. He was previously chair of the Teacher Training Agency (1997-2003), chair of the Nurses Pay Review Body (1997-2004) and deputy chair of the South East England Development Agency (1998-2004). He has been a senior education adviser to the World Bank and British Council. He is an editorial board member of the Oxford Review of Education.
