Lottery Monitor Awards for Excellence 2003
Revealing the most successful Lottery funded projects to date
WINNERS
BACKGROUND
Although the National Lottery has awarded over 100,000 grants up to a total of £12.2bn - 70% of people cannot name a single locally funded lottery project.
This year Lottery Monitor launched its first Lottery Awards for
Excellence, established in order to recognize and draw attention to the remarkable achievements of lottery-funded projects and those that helped make them happen since the inception of the National Lottery in 1994.
Whilst there has been ample coverage in the press of fiascos and failures, there is very little awareness of the successes, even though they have benefited millions of citizens in communities up and down the country. These awards were an opportunity to celebrate some of the most successful lottery projects to date.
We invited nominations from those working in all areas of the Lottery community for projects in the following categories: ‘Kids’; ‘Public Space’; ‘Small Awards’; ‘Innovation’ and for the ‘Best Local Authority for lottery success 2000-2002’.
All nominated projects and authorities were invited to send in an application giving further details about how they were organised and what their particular successes were. We received applications from projects of all sizes, across the UK and finally chose a shortlist of those projects which really used the money they received from the Lottery to create something brilliant, projects we think have given value for money and a real benefit to those in the community and also two Local Authorities which stood out in their work with the National Lottery.
