Awards for All England applications have jumped since the start of 2002 as momentum builds for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. A4A applications, running on average at 1,200 a month in the last quarter of 2001, rose to 1877 in January and 2661 in February. Mike Wilkins, director of A4A England, says: ‘We are very pleased. The increase is consistent across the country. I think the increase is in part because the regional operations of NOF and the HLF are beginning to kick in. And in part it is the Golden Jubilee factor.’ A4A England has dealt with 819 Golden Jubilee applications so far, representing requests for £3m of grants. Of these, 279 have been funded, worth £1m. Another 458 are awaiting a decision and 82 have been rejected or withdrawn. Applications for Jubilee projects will close in September.
