As participants at the recent Lottery Monitor Scotland annual conference discovered, the Scottish Executive has created a National Lottery Unit, set up in July to coordinate relationships with distributors and others involved in lottery funding matters. The unit will eventually have a staff of three, but at the moment its two personnel are Gavin Barrie, head of unit, and Shirley Dunbar, policy officer. Barrie explained ‘Responsibility for distribution bodies has been spread about a bit between departments and individuals, so there was a need to coordinate things.’
