The New Opportunities Fund has launched its Third Round £70m palliative care programme in England. It will spend £22m on services for adults and £48m goes to children’s services. The adult scheme is being channelled through 100 of the most deprived primary care trusts, the full list of which is online at www.nof.org.uk/index.cfm?loc=hea&inc =pclist. Children’s services will be chan-nelled through strategic regional health offices: applications may come from all areas.
In both child and adult schemes, applications must be made in the first instance to the PCT or strategic health office, as each one will be allowed to submit a single bid to NOF. The sole exception to this is children, hospice care, where application may be submitted independently to NOF. Bid limits apply as follows:

Adult services: up to £400,000, of which £20,000 max may be for capital.

Children, home-based care projects: up to £400,000, of which £20,000 max may be for capital.

Children, bereavement projects: up to £75,000 including max £5,000 capital.

Children, hospice care: up to £650,000, including max £20,000 capital.

Expressions of interest should be lodged with the relevant PCT or health office by 31 May 2002; closing date for applications is 16 August 2002, and grants will be awarded from January 2003. Parallel schemes for Scotland, Wales and NI will be announced in the summer.

Application forms are available online at www.nof.org.uk or on 0845 000 0121
