The Department of Culture has released an updated summary of balances held by each of the distributors at end March 2003. Total balances were £3.25bn and total commitments £4.21bn. This meant there was an overcommitment of £950m. The white paper on lottery reform (see pp6-7) provides a more recent figure of £3.17bn total balances at end April 2003, which it says is the lowest since 1998.
