Film statistics
The UK Film Council has produced a statistical yearbook of film in the UK for the first time. The 2002 yearbook is a wide-ranging compilation and analysis of film industry data pulled together by the council’s research and statistical unit, focusing on the role and contribution of film production and distribution to the UK and global economies. The yearbook estimates film production’s contribution to the UK economy in 2002 as £560m, and says the industry employs 30,000 to 50,000 people. There are 80-odd pages of tabular and graphical material, covering film, video, DVD,

TV; production, distribution and exhibition; domestic market, UK film internationally and overseas productions in the UK. You can order Film in the UKfrom the Film Council (020 7861 7861) or download it (pdf) from www.ukfilmcouncil.org.uk

Endowment launch
Two years after the idea of a community endowment fund was conceived, the £50m NOF-backed Fair Share Trust has come into being, launched on 11 June. The ‘expendable endowment’ fund will last 10 years and pump money into priority neighbourhoods in 70 of the UK’s 77 Fair Share target areas. The Community Foundation Network is coordinating local delivery, focusing on capacity building, maintaining community assets and environmental ‘liveability’.

Sporting tips
Sport England has enlisted the help of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) to produce new guidelines for those involved in building sports facilities.
