Inclusion scheme for Scotland

Sport Scotland has launched a £3m Lottery scheme, the Social Inclusion Partnership (SIP) Programme, aimed at tackling social exclusion by encouraging deprived communities to take up sports, physical recreation and healthy living activities.

Make sure you receive your fair share of lottery cash - take out a no-obligation trial subscription today.

The programme will run for three years, closing in December 2004 (project implementation will run until December 2006). Each of the 14 SIPs will have an indicative funding allocation based on its local population, as will the two NLUS (New Life for Urban Scotland) partnerships in Castlemilk and Wester Hailes. Within these notional totals, however, the programme is open application.

Sport Scotland lists as potential applicants: local authorities, health boards, leisure trusts, sports clubs in SIP areas, local voluntary or community associations and community business or commercial organisations delivering a project for the benefit of the community.

Appropriate kinds of projects for SIP Programme funding include: employment of fundraising or project development consultants; staging of local sporting events; training and qualifications courses for local sports leaders; purchase of sports equipment or facilities.

Minimum grants will be £5,000 and there is a match-funding requirement of 10%, cash or in-kind support. The maximum eligible total project cost (including match funding) is £11,100.

Application packs and guidelines are available from Sport Scotland at www.sportscotland.org.uk or 0131-339 9000
