The Millennium Commission has launched its long-awaited fund for the renewal and updating of major exhibitions. Called ‘ReDiscover’ the £33m fund represents a departure for lottery distributors, as it is a three-way collaboration between the Millennium Commission (which has contributed £25m), the Wellcome Trust (£5m) and the Wolfson Foundation (£3m).
‘ReDiscover’ will have four bidding rounds over the next three years: applications for the first round must be in by 1 November for a decision in April 2003. Deadlines for subsequent rounds are 1 June 2003 (decision December 2003); 1 March 2004 (decision August 2004) and 1 October 2004 (decision April 2005).
The fund covers science, engineering and technology; science centres and museums throughout the UK may apply for cash to ‘renew, replace, refresh or redevelop’ their existing exhibits. There is no maximum award, but a minimum of £75,000 and applicants will need to supply 25% match funding.
For more information see www.well-come.ac.uk/rediscover – a downloadable application form and guidance notes will be online from mid-September, or call Debbie Vincent at the Wellcome Trust, which is administering the scheme, on
020 7611 7347.
